Material properties and filtration performance
Perlite as a filter aid for industrial filtration
Perlite is a volcanic lava rock based on aluminium silicate that is used as a filter aid within industrial filtration processes.
Due to the natural water content in the rock, perlite expands when heated to many times its original volume. After heating and milling, a light, white powder is created with filtration properties suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.
Open structure and high porosity
Perlite is characterised by an open structure, high porosity and low bulk density. In addition, the material is chemically inert.
These properties make perlite suitable for filtration processes where process stability and filtration capacity are important.
Applications and available perlite solutions
Applications within industrial filtration processes
Perlite is used as a filter aid within, among others:
- Breweries
- Food industry
- Chemical industry
Depending on the process and the required filtration properties, different grades and particle sizes can be applied.
Available in different grades and particle sizes
Profiltra supplies perlite under the Harborlite® and Europerl® brand names in different versions and particle sizes for industrial filtration applications.
