Membranes

Membranes for industrial filtration and separation processes with high purity requirements.

Membrane technologies and industrial applications

Membranes for industrial filtration processes

Membranes are used within industrial filtration processes where very fine separation of particles, molecules and ions is required.

Due to the presence of semipermeable membranes, specific components can be separated from liquid streams. Depending on the membrane type, particles ranging from several microns down to very small ions can be removed.

Profiltra supplies membranes for applications within, among others, the food industry, beverage industry, water treatment, pharmaceutical industry and chemical processes.

Different membrane technologies for different filtration levels

Within the range, different membrane technologies are available for a wide range of filtration and separation processes:

  • Reverse osmosis (RO)
  • Nanofiltration (NF)
  • Ultrafiltration (UF)
  • Microfiltration (MF)

Depending on the required filtration level, liquid properties and process conditions, the appropriate membrane technology can be selected.

Applications within industry, water and food processes

Membranes are used within a wide range of industrial processes and applications, including:

  • Water desalination
  • Purification of process streams
  • Concentration of liquids
  • Removal of microcontaminants
  • Whey and milk protein concentration
  • Purification of sugar solutions
  • Wastewater applications
  • Chemical liquids

In addition, membranes are available for sanitary applications and processes where high purity standards apply.

Filtration levels, laboratory applications and process protection

Reverse osmosis, nano-, ultra- and microfiltration

Reverse osmosis membranes are used for removing very small ions from water streams.

Nanofiltration membranes are used for the separation of microcontaminants and multivalent ions.

Ultrafiltration membranes are used for the separation of macromolecules within industrial and sanitary processes.

Microfiltration membranes are used for removing suspended particles from liquid streams.

Laboratory and process filtration

In addition to industrial membranes, Profiltra also supplies laboratory filters and membranes for analytical and small-scale filtration applications.

The range includes, among others, transfer membranes, syringe filters and capsule filters in different materials and filtration levels for applications within laboratories, coatings, fine chemicals, pharmaceutical processes and microelectronics.

Protection of membranes through prefiltration

For reliable operation of membrane systems, a suitable prefiltration step is important.

Profiltra supplies, among others, filter cartridges for protecting membranes against contamination and supporting stable filtration processes.
